This retreat serves as Part 1 of a three-part initiation series, focusing on the essential “Lung” transmission.
The Practice: More Than Physical Healing
The Medicine Buddha is the supreme embodiment of the healing energy of all enlightened beings. While often associated with physical health, this practice transcends the body. It is a powerful method for purifying the subtle causes and conditions of all forms of suffering.
By connecting with the radiant, lapis lazuli light of wisdom and compassion, we work to:
- Clear deep-seated afflictions.
- Pacify inner and outer obstacles on the path.
- Realize the mind’s innate, pristine nature.
- Become a source of healing for oneself and the world.
Understanding the “Lung” Transmission
This teaching is specifically designed for those with a foundation in Buddhist practice.
In this retreat, Amchi will provide the formal Lung (reading transmission). A Lung is a traditional blessing where the teacher reads the practice text aloud, granting students the spiritual permission and lineage blessing required to engage in the specific practice.
The Path Ahead: This transmission is the vital first step toward a full initiation.

Retreat Curriculum
During our four days together, you will:
- Receive the precious Medicine Buddha lung transmission.
- Engage in in-depth instruction on the visualization, mantra, and ritual practice.
- Participate in extended group practice sessions to accumulate merit.
- Explore how to apply this practice to overcome personal obstacles.
- Establish a powerful, lifelong connection with the healing energy of the Medicine Buddha.
Required Text: We will use “The Jewel Necklace Concise Ritual Practice of the Medicine Buddha” by Nyamed Sherab Gyaltsen. It contains the complete practice in Tibetan and English and is highly recommended for the retreat.
The Teachers
Dr. Amchi Khedup Loden Gurung A highly accomplished doctor versed in Tibetan Bön Medicine, Amchi Khedup treats around 300 patients per month in the Mustang Valley of the Nepalese Himalayas. Patients travel from far-away regions specifically to receive his treatment.
John Jackson A former professor at the University of Virginia School of Medicine (23 years) and director of the Chamma Ling Solitary Retreat Center (17 years), Jack Jackson has led more than 100 meditation retreats globally. He has trained with senior Bön lineage masters, including Yongdzin Tenzin Namdak Rinpoche.

🗓️ Practical Details
- Dates: May 28th – 31st, 2026.
- Location: Agape Crete, Amiras.
- Retreat Fee: €450 per person for in-person and online both (Scholarships available upon request).
- Language: The in-person event is in English, with Spanish and Portuguese simultaneous translation for the virtual online event
- Accommodation: Options range from €15 to €120 per day.
- Meals: Full board is available for €35 per day.
- Travel: The closest airport is Heraklion (approx. 1 hour drive). Pickup or car rental can be arranged.
- Language: The teaching will be in English, with simultaneous Spanish and Portuguese translations for our online Zoom session
- Online participation: The teaching will also be available live, via Zoom, with simultaneous Spanish and Portuguese translations available, so online participation is also possible. The sign up process is the same and you will receive a link via which to connect during the event. Please note the event is during the day in Athens timezone (GMT+2).
- Tourist visa for EU: Unfortunately, we are not in a position to help you obtain visas for the European Union should you require one. However, we are happy to provide you with a letter of invitation, a letter to the Greek consulate in your country, as well as proof of payment for the retreat and accomodation.
