Volunteer Agreement and Liability Waiver

This document establishes the mutual agreement between you (the "Volunteer") and the Agape Crete community. For clarity, the "Agape Crete community" refers to the collective of co-owners, residents, and volunteers living and working together. This agreement formalizes our relationship as a voluntary, non-employment exchange: the Volunteer agrees to contribute their time and skills to community projects, and in return, Agape Crete provides food and accommodation. This document also outlines the terms of the arrangement, details the activities involved, and constitutes a legally binding liability waiver. A thorough review is required prior to participation.

1. Scope of Volunteer Activities

The volunteer exchange arrangement provides accommodation and meals in consideration for a contribution of approximately six (6) hours of labor per day on five (5) days each week. The specific duties assigned will be determined by the operational needs of the community and may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Agricultural tasks, including gardening and land management.
• General construction, maintenance, and property repairs.
• Communal cleaning and domestic responsibilities.

2. Minimum Stay Commitment

Our volunteer program is structured around a minimum commitment of two (2) months. This period allows volunteers to integrate into the community, contribute meaningfully to projects, and justifies the significant investment the community makes in each participant, including food, accommodation, and insurance. Accepting this position means we have counted on your presence and may have turned other applicants away. We understand that unforeseen circumstances can arise. However, should a volunteer choose to depart before fulfilling the two-month agreement, a discussion with community management is required. An arrangement must be mutually agreed upon to fairly compensate the community for the costs incurred and the disruption caused by the early departure.

3. Acknowledgement of Inherent Risks

The Agape Crete property is maintained in a natural, rustic state. Volunteers must be aware of and acknowledge the potential for inherent risks associated with this environment. These risks include, but are not limited to:

• The presence of uneven terrain, rocks, unpaved pathways, staircases, balconies, and rooftops.
• Proximity to open bodies of water, such as ponds.
• Exposure to indigenous flora and fauna.
• The use of manual tools, power tools and other equipment.
• Environmental factors, including high temperatures and sun exposure.

By signing this agreement, the volunteer confirms they are in suitable physical condition to participate in the required activities and fully understand the aforementioned risks.

4. CRITICAL SMOKING & FIRE POLICY

Crete is extremely dry and windy, creating a constant and severe risk of wildfire. Due to this danger, there is an absolute and non-negotiable ban on all open flames on all community-owned properties outside of designated areas.

• Fire and Smoking Regulations: To maintain a fresh and clean environment and for critical fire safety, smoking and the use of any open flames (including candles or incense) are strictly prohibited across all our properties. This ban applies to all indoor spaces without exception, including your personal accommodation (rooms, tents, domes), shared community buildings, and community vehicles. The only exception is for smoking within the specially designated outdoor smoking areas, which will be shown to you. When using these areas, you must use the provided ashtrays and ensure all cigarettes are fully extinguished.
• Legal & Financial Liability: Be aware that under Greek law, starting a fire, even by simple negligence, is considered a criminal offense. This can lead to prosecution, very large personal fines, and potential imprisonment. Should a fire be traced back to your actions, you will be held solely and fully liable for all legal consequences and financial damages, which can be substantial. Furthermore, should your negligence lead to any fines being levied against the community, you agree to fully and immediately compensate the community for the entire monetary amount of those fines.

5. Release and Waiver of Liability

In consideration of being permitted to volunteer at Agape Crete, I, the undersigned, do hereby release and forever discharge Agape Crete, its owners, managers, and affiliates from any and all liability, claims, and demands of any kind whatsoever, which arise or may hereafter arise from my volunteer work. I understand that this release discharges the aforementioned parties from any liability or claim that I may have against them with respect to any bodily injury, personal injury, illness, death, or property damage that may result from my participation.

6. Indemnification

Furthermore, I agree to indemnify and hold harmless Agape Crete, its owners, managers, and affiliates from any and all losses, claims, actions, or proceedings of every kind and character which may be presented or initiated by any other persons or organizations and which arise directly or indirectly from my actions, whether negligent or intentional, while volunteering.

7. Responsibility for Accompanying Minors

Any volunteer who brings a minor to the property assumes full and sole responsibility for their supervision and safety at all times. The volunteer acknowledges that the property is not child-proofed and that all risks outlined in this agreement apply equally to any accompanying minors. This agreement shall be binding upon the volunteer on their own behalf and on behalf of any minors in their care.

8. Compliance with Greek Law

As a participant in the Agape Crete community, you are required to act in full compliance with all laws of the Hellenic Republic. You are personally and solely responsible for your actions. Agape Crete assumes no liability for illegal activities conducted by volunteers. In the event a volunteer is detained, arrested, or faces legal proceedings, the community is not responsible for providing legal representation, paying fines, or securing release from custody.

9. Drug & Substance Policy

Please be aware that drugs, including marijuana and mind-altering substances ("traditional medicine"), are highly illegal in Greece. Should you choose to possess or consume illegal substances, you do so entirely at your own risk. Agape Crete is not liable for your personal choices and will not provide any legal or financial support in the event you face legal consequences.

10. Pet & Animal Policy

• Prior Permission Required: To ensure safety, hygiene, the energetic integrity of our spaces, and the well-being of all community members, you must receive explicit, prior permission from management before bringing any pet to the community. We must consider potential allergies or phobias of other residents before granting approval. This policy does not apply to legally recognized and certified assistance animals, for which we still require advance notice.
• Accommodation & Cleaning: If permission is granted for a pet in your provided accommodation, you are fully responsible for a deep and thorough cleaning before you depart to ensure the space is 100% free of pet hair and danger for any future occupants who may have allergies.
• Restricted Areas & Leash Rules: Pets are not permitted in shared indoor spaces, on any wooden platforms, or in any treatment areas. Pets must be kept on a leash at all times in the village of Amiras and are not allowed in the healing spaces of Vachos. Off-leash is only permitted in unfenced areas of Vachos, but be aware of the presence of protective herding dogs, wild dogs, and sensitive wildlife in the area.

11. Offering Healings, Treatments, or Workshops

Agape Crete is not liable for any private sessions, treatments, or classes offered by community members.

• Prior Approval Required: If you wish to offer any form of treatment, healing session, or workshop (paid or unpaid), you must first receive explicit permission from Agape management. Receiving permission to offer sessions does not imply an endorsement from the community, nor does it make Agape Crete liable for the quality, content, or outcome of such private sessions.
• Use of Spaces: You must also receive approval before entering or using any of the designated treatment spaces for any purpose.

I have read, fully understand, and voluntarily agree to the terms and conditions outlined in this agreement.

Community Rules & Regulations

For Volunteers & Residents

To ensure a safe, harmonious, and respectful environment for everyone, all community members are required to adhere to the following rules. For clarity, the term "community member" throughout this document refers to all volunteers, residents, and co-owners of Agape Crete. This does not include temporary retreat guests or guesthouse visitors.

2. Daily Schedule & Meals

• Breakfast & Mindful Mornings: A free breakfast is provided in the shared kitchen each morning. We encourage a culture of mindfulness and full presence in all our activities, whether it is eating a meal or planning our day. In this spirit, we ask that you finish your breakfast before the daily volunteer meeting begins, allowing you to be fully present for the meal and then fully focused for the meeting that follows.
• Work Hours: Volunteer work hours may vary depending on the season and community needs, but typically consist of a six-hour workday (e.g., 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM). Different working hours may be arranged with prior approval from management.
• Community Lunch: A shared, free lunch is provided for everyone at 2:00 or 3:00 PM. The meal is always meat-free (vegetarian) and occasionally includes fish (pescatarian).
• Kitchen Access: The shared kitchen is reserved for the designated cooks after the morning meeting until lunch is served. It will be closed again after lunch for cleaning. To respect the cooks' workflow, please do not enter the kitchen during these times.
• Snacks & Water: Snacks and water will be available outside the kitchen during work hours. If you would like something from the shared fridge after breakfast, please ask for assistance.
• Food Allergies & Dietary Needs: Your health and safety are paramount. If you have any food allergies or critical dietary needs, you are required to declare them in writing on your "Information & Insurance Consent Form.". However, a form alone is not sufficient. It is your personal and ongoing responsibility to verbally communicate your allergies directly to the kitchen team when you arrive, and to check in with them about ingredients regularly. While our kitchen team takes great care, you are the ultimate guardian of your own well-being.

3. Communal Responsibilities

• Assigned Duties: All members may be assigned duties on a rotating schedule for the thorough cleaning of kitchens and bathrooms. On occasion, you may also be assigned to a cooking team.
• Personal Tidiness: The assigned duties are separate from the daily expectation to clean up after yourself immediately in all shared spaces.
• Accommodation Care: Please treat your provided accommodation with respect and keep it orderly. Upon your departure, the room and its contents must be left in the same condition as you received them.
• Respect for Shared Property: All shared items—from vehicles and tools to kitchen appliances—are for everyone's benefit. Please treat them with care and return them to their proper place after use.
  • Reporting Damages: If you notice something is broken or missing, or if an incident occurs that causes damage, you must report it to a manager immediately. Immediate notification is critical for repairs and is a condition for any potential insurance coverage, especially if it involves third-party property.
  • Financial Responsibility: If shared property is damaged due to your misuse, carelessness, or negligence, you will be held personally and financially responsible for the full cost of repair or replacement.

4. Shared Community Activities

• Member-Led Activities & Disclaimer: We regularly have shared community activities like yoga and meditation, which are often organized and led by fellow community members. Participation is always optional. Please note that because these are peer-organized activities, Agape Crete is not responsible or liable for the content, quality, or any outcomes of these sessions. You participate at your own discretion.
• Punctuality & Respect: If you choose to join any activity, we ask that you arrive on time and participate in a manner that is respectful to the facilitator and other participants.
• Externally-Hosted Workshops: Please note that specialized workshops hosted by external facilitators are separate events. These are generally open to everyone, including community members, but require separate registration and payment and, in some cases, also qualifications and prerequisites.

5. Offering Treatments, Sessions or Workshops

Agape Crete is not liable for any private sessions, treatments, or classes offered by community members.

• Prior Approval Required: If you wish to offer any form of treatment, healing session, or workshop (paid or unpaid), you must first receive explicit permission from Agape management. Receiving permission to offer sessions does not imply an endorsement from the community, nor does it make Agape Crete liable for the quality, content, or outcome of such private sessions.
• Use of Spaces: You must also receive approval before entering or using any of the designated treatment spaces for any purpose.

6. General Conduct & Policies

• Compliance with Local Law: You are required to abide by all Greek laws. You are solely responsible for your actions. Agape Crete will not provide financial or legal assistance in the event of legal trouble.
• Drug & Substance Policy: Please be aware that drugs, including marijuana and mind-altering substances ("traditional medicine"), are highly illegal in Greece. Should you choose to possess or consume illegal substances, you do so entirely at your own risk. Agape Crete is not liable for your personal choices and will not provide any legal or financial support in the event you face legal consequences.

Shepherds in Greece have a legal right to protect their flocks, which can include harming dogs perceived as a threat.
• Quiet Hours: Please be mindful of noise, especially after 10:00 PM

I have read, understood, and agree to abide by all the rules and regulations listed above. I understand the critical importance of the fire safety rules and the potential consequences of violating them.

Please complete this section if you hold a valid driver's license. Even if you do not plan to drive regularly, having your information on file is useful in case of an emergency.

By completing and signing this section, I confirm my request to be an approved driver for community vehicles and agree to all terms outlined below.

Driver's License Certification I certify that I hold a valid driver's license that is legally recognized in Greece for the type of vehicle I intend to drive. I accept that it is my responsibility to confirm if my license is recognized. I agree to provide a copy of my license upon request.

Vehicle Availability & Approval I understand that the use of community vehicles is not guaranteed. I must formally request to use a vehicle for personal trips and wait for explicit approval from community managers. Community needs will always take priority.

Driving Conduct & Competence I agree to operate the vehicle safely, responsibly, and in full compliance with all Greek traffic laws. Regardless of local driving customs, I will adhere strictly to the law. I recognize that I am responsible for the safety of any passengers.

No Impairment I will never operate a community vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or any other substance that could impair my judgment.

Vehicle Familiarity If I am unfamiliar with how to operate a specific type of vehicle (e.g., a 4x4, truck, or manual transmission), I am obligated to ask for instruction before driving it.

Financial Liability & Damage Policy I understand that financial liability depends on the nature of the trip (Personal vs. Community Business):

1. Traffic Fines: Regardless of the purpose of the trip, I am solely responsible for paying any traffic violations or parking fines incurred while the vehicle is in my care.
2. Liability during Personal Use (e.g., Leisure, Beach Trips): If I am using the vehicle for private purposes, I am fully financially liable for any damage caused by my negligence. This includes slight negligence (e.g., minor scratches, momentary lack of attention). In this scenario, I am responsible for repair costs, insurance deductibles, and associated costs.
3. Liability during Authorized Community Duties: If damage occurs while I am performing an authorized task for the community (e.g., supply runs, transporting residents), liability is determined based on the degree of fault:
   • Intent: I am fully liable for the entire damage (e.g., intentionally ramming a gate).
   • Gross Negligence: I am generally fully liable.
     • Examples: Driving under the influence, extreme speeding, or texting while driving.
   • Medium Negligence:
     • Definition: You failed to use normal caution and the damage was avoidable, but you were not acting recklessly. It was a significant mistake (like losing focus), not a deliberate disregard for safety.
     • The cost of the damage will be shared proportionally between the Community and myself, depending on the specific circumstances.
     • Examples: Causing a rear-end collision due to insufficient safety distance, scraping a wall while parking due to not checking mirrors properly, or ignoring a dashboard warning light which leads to engine damage.
   • Slight Negligence: I am not liable; the Community assumes the cost.
     • Examples: A stone hitting the windshield during normal driving, or minor scratches from overgrown vegetation on narrow roads despite driving carefully.

Power Tool & Equipment Use

Training & Competence I am obligated to ask for instructions if I do not know how to safely operate a specific power tool. I will not use it until I have received proper training and am confident in my ability.

Financial Liability for Equipment I agree that if I damage equipment through misuse, negligence, or use outside of authorized community projects, I will be held financially responsible for the full cost of its repair or replacement.

Part 3: Equipment & Materials Check-Out & Reporting

Permission for Materials I understand that when requiring a significant quantity of building materials, I must first get approval from a community manager.

Duty to Inspect and Report Issues I agree to inspect any tool or vehicle before using it and to immediately report any existing damage or malfunction. Furthermore, if any damage occurs while an item is in my care, I will report it immediately, regardless of fault. This is crucial for keeping our community operations running smoothly.

I have read, understood, and agree to all applicable terms outlined in this Vehicle and Equipment Use Agreement.

Please note: If you are arriving as part of a couple or group, each individual must sign their own separate agreement.

We are honored to have you here. To share the teachings from our retreats with the wider world, we often film our sessions for our Digital Library. We want to be transparent about how we use this footage and ensure you feel comfortable with your choice to be seen—or not seen.

1. The Activity

During your stay, we may be photographing or recording video/audio during sessions, meditation practices, seminars, as well as communal meals and daily activities in our community.

2. Your Choice (Please check the boxes in the next form field)

OPTION A: MARKETING (Sharing the Vibe) I grant Agape Community Crete, its successors, and assigns ("The Company") the right to use my image/voice for promotional purposes only (Instagram, Website, Newsletters, etc.) to share the atmosphere of our retreats and the community life.

• I understand there is no financial compensation for this use.

OPTION B: DIGITAL LIBRARY (Sharing the Teachings) I grant The Company the irrevocable, worldwide, perpetual right to use my image/voice in paid commercial products (Digital Library, Online Courses, Educational Series). I understand these are sold to the public to support our mission.

• Agreement: I acknowledge that these products are sold commercially and I am not entitled to royalties or revenue share.

Our "Comfort & Privacy" System:

• If you checked Option B: You are welcome to sit anywhere, including the "Filming Zone" (front rows).
• If you did NOT check Option B: We fully respect your privacy. Please seat yourself in the designated "Privacy Zone" (back rows/sides) so you can relax without being filmed.
• Note: Sitting in the front "Filming Zone" implies consent to be filmed, even if this box is unchecked.

3. Understanding Our Commercial Agreement

To ensure we can release these courses without legal risk, we need a firm commitment from those who agree to participate in them. However, we also honor the vulnerability of deep work.

• Commitment to the Project (Reliance): I acknowledge that The Company invests significant resources to film and edit these courses based on my consent. Therefore, I understand that generally, once production begins, my consent to be in the commercial product is final and withdrawing it later would cause financial damage for which I would be responsible.
• The "Deep Work" Safety Net: We recognize that deep processes are unpredictable. Unlike standard lectures, participatory sessions can lead to moments of significant vulnerability—whether emotional (e.g., deep release, crying) or physical (e.g., removing clothing, intense sweating, or physical expression). If a session leads to a moment where you feel exposed and do not wish to share it with the world, you may revoke your consent for that specific footage immediately after the session ends, overriding your previous signature. We prioritize your dignity over our footage.
• Legal Waiver: To the extent necessary for commercial distribution, I waive rights regarding the commercial use of these recordings under relevant privacy laws (including Israeli Privacy Protection Act & EU laws), provided the content is used as described in Option B.

4. Release & Jurisdiction

I release The Company and its team from standard claims of defamation, invasion of privacy, or copyright infringement regarding these uses.

5. Governing Law

To the extent legally permissible, this agreement is governed by the laws of Greece. We agree that any legal matters regarding this contract with the Greek entity will be handled in the courts of Heraklion, Crete.

6. Transfer of Rights

To ensure the Digital Library can continue to exist if the company structure changes, The Company reserves the right to transfer these rights to a successor or operating entity.

7. Validity

If one part of this agreement is found invalid under applicable law (including GDPR/Israeli Law), the rest of the agreement remains valid.
